John Charles Smith, known as Johnboy Smith
In 2006 Johnboy was left with T10/T11 Paraplegia after he suffered a spinal cord injury, He then spent 6 months in the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Units Rehabilitation Centre where he found wheelchair body building and decided to give it a try and continued with it from 2007 until 2009.
After that he went on to try Para Power Lifting and broke 2 British records in the Bench Press event, It was while watching the Para Olympic games in 2012 which were held in London he decided he wanted to become a Para-Olympian himself.
First he became a seated Shot Putter, Discus and Javelin thrower and became no 1 in the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports World Rankings,
After he was told that the Javelin throwing contest had been taken out of the 2016 Rio Para-Olympic Games he retired from the throwing events and moved on to Wheelchair Racing, He then went to try out at the Wier Archer Academy.
He met Jenny Archer in the July of 2014 , Jenny saw the potential Johnboy had as a Wheelchair Racer. He started his racing career in March 2015 he became the 2015 Manchester marathon winner. In 2016 he won both the Standard Charter Dubai Marathon and the Manchester half Marathon In 2017 he became the Seville marathon winner and took 5th place in the Berlin Marathon.
In 2018 he had a busy year becoming runner up in the New York Marathon, took 6th place in the 2017/2018 Abbot World Marathon Majors, took a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games T54 Marathon.
He is currently ranked 2nd overall in the U.K. and in the Commonwealth Nations, 4th in Europe and 19th in the World.
