The only way to combat Racism and hate crime is to REPORT it , that way you will be sending a clear message to the racist and hater that their actions will no longer be tolerated.

 

It is not ok to be treat differently or to be called names or forbidden to enter a shop because you are a Gypsy Roma or Traveller, It is not acceptable to be misrepresented in Newspapers or in T.V.  news reports.

 

Every day  Local and sometimes national Newspapers sensationalize a story involving  Gypsy, Roma or Traveller communities.  This sensationalism not only sells their newspapers but it serves to incite more hate and racism .

 

Take these two Headlines which appeared recently in  the Mirror and the Mail.

"Take Over" now lets be honest these Travellers did NOT take over anywhere least of all a crematorium in fact they were parked up near to it and the funeral parties had to pass by where they were parked, In fact one lady who was attending the funeral of her mother told the newspapers this:

 

The mother-of-one said: 'The first thing I thought was "I hope they don't ruin my mum's day". I didn't want anybody who hadn't been invited to come across and start looking at the flowers.

'Before we arrived we all came together as a family and decided whatever happened we weren't going to let it spoil our day.

'It's absolutely ludicrous that they parked there. We just ignored them as they sat there watching the hearse go past.

'Thankfully the funeral went really well...but it was always in the back of your mind that they were there.'

 

Now while she did not want  "anybody who hadn't been invited" coming to look at the flowers, I wonder if she would have raised the same comments if "Coronation Street" had been filming their latest episode  I mean the cortège would have had to pass all the film crew vehicle you know the big lorries etc, Would she have objected to them being filmed looking at all the flowers or would she have asked for her flowers to be removed from the cameras view.

The Story raised several comments some that were removed due to their content but this one remained .

Nothing that these people do is a crime. They roar around the countryside in vehicles that are untaxed and uninsured. I have even seen a child driving a 4x4 along a public road! They che at and l ie and st eal, and park up wherever they like, and none of this is ever ill egal for some reason. It would appear that the police and the council authorities are too afraid of them to implement the same laws that the rest of us must live by. If we ordinary people behaved as these para sites do, we would be up before the magistrate before we could draw breath. One rule for them, another rule for us!!!.

 

Here the writer claims that Travellers  "Cheat, Lie, and Steal " and then goes on to call Travellers "Para sites", Now I agree there is two laws one for the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller  and one for the Local community, except it is in reverse to the way this person writes it.

I mean it is not his home that is turned out in the middle of the night when the Local criminals decide  because there are  Gypsies, Roma or Travellers down the lane to go on a  burgling spree or a shop lifting free for all, no the finger is always pointed at the "Visitors".

Racism and hate crimes are being committed even in Schools by pupils and sometimes teachers who consider it a waste of their time to be teaching  children from the Gypsy, Roma and Travelling communities.

While they bury their heads in the sand to the Traveller child being physically attacked by  a GROUP of other pupils, threatened and called names, ridiculed and picked on every day  as they believe there is no Bullying in their school .

Well after a 2 hour meeting with 2 diversity police officers regarding the treatment of English and Irish Travellers weather it be road side or settled we got a bit of a result.

 

We finally got them to acknowledge that the post on facebook regarding encampments and threats inciting of race hate especially on blogs from newspapers are not acceptable.

 

They have agreed that any further such comments will be removed.
They are now contacting the Lancashire evening post and asking for a meeting with them to monitor all articles regarding G and T.
They agreed if i spot any further race hate to contact immediately and it will be dealt with and removed asap.
Unfortunately the same old story though.

 

They also agreed that no other ethnic minority puts up with it.
My reply"because you convict people who abuse them but not Travellers.Thats why it continues because nobody in authority says no"
IF TRAVELLERS DONT REPORT INCIDENTS AIMED AT THEMSELVES THEN ANYBODY ELSE REPORTING IT WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO GET IT REMOVED AND NO PROSECUTION WILL HAPPEN AS ONLY VICTIM CAN FOLLOW IT THROUGH TO COURT ACTION.
WE NEED TO REPORT ALL RACISM.

 

On another note they have agreed that the Police/ diversity team will be interested in some Traveller education and training to better understand the culture.
They also accepted that incidents on road side camps regarding racism and the recent shooting and fire threats against Travellers are overlooked as they dont expect the Travellers to be there long and know they wont make a complaint.
THEY WONT MAKE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE NOBODY LISTENS.
Catch 22.

 

So. We all need to complain and report any racist incident and log as race hate.
Most important is Travellers must report incidents themselves and must follow it through so that the Police cant just overlook it until they are moved or move on.

 

REPORT REPORT REPORT.
Due to me reporting the incidents it has been logged as race hate but will go no further due to Travellers moving on and not reporting it themselves when Police arrived.
Small steps.

 

The only way we will stamp out racism and hate crime is by REPORTING IT!!! and bringing proper action against the  people responsible.

We need to send that clear message to individuals, Groups, Media, and Newspapers that it is no longer acceptable to abuse our Ethnicity.
